how to motivate your child to study more

Who does not want her child to be an achiever? But to be an achiever one has to be a good learner first. Good learners are not born as good learners. They have become that over a period of time. Any child who possesses natural ability and skill can become a good learner if we follow the right ways to motivate him. If we depend completely on the classroom and school curriculum, we might not be able to discover the true potential of our children. To enhance the learning ability and reading habits of our child we have to think something beyond the four walls of the classroom. Here are some proven ways you can apply from an early age( it can be as early as 3) to motivate your child to study more.

HOW TO MOTIVATE A CHILD TO STUDY MORE:

1.CREATE READING HABIT TO GET A MOTIVATED CHILD

Children who read more learn more. Encourage your children to read more books from a very early age. Make them fall in love with learning by filling up their world with interesting books. Reading different types of books to them at an early age enhances their vocabulary and reading habits. Kids get easily interested in illustrated, activity-based books. Choose their first books in which creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving are integrated all together. These kinds of books ignite the child’s curiosity and motivate your child to study more.

2. READ MORE TO MOTIVATE YOUR CHILD TO STUDY MORE:

We, moms nowadays remain very much engaged either with our mobile phones or the television. Remember that we are the role model of our kids. If we don’t control our screen time it is nearly impossible to motivate our children to be better learners. Be it the newspaper, the storybooks or it may be our favorite women’s magazine- we have to set our own example of reading to motivate a lazy child to study. A child who has a reading atmosphere at home most likely turns to be an avid reader.

3. FOLLOW THE PLAY-WAY METHOD TO ENGAGE A MOTIVATED KID:

we have to try different teaching techniques for our little ones to discover what motivates our children to learn. Teaching mathematics with simple household articles around us is a great way to make kids interested in numbers. To teach them science basics conduct small experiments with simple household things that are easy to handle. This way, we can raise motivated kids by developing scientific temperament among them. Sometimes role-playing also works effectively to motivate the child. Because children like learning by doing. In other words, parents who spend a lot of time incorporating playing with learning offer enough motivation for the child.

4. ENCOURAGE TO MAKE THEIR OWN STUDY PLAN TO MOTIVATE CHILDREN:

This is very important to develop a sense of responsibility in our child. When we allow our children to make the routine for themselves they feel a sense of control of their lives. Eventually, they get easily motivated to follow it at their best. We have to discuss with them the consequences of being unplanned and unorganized. Fix their target first and ask them to prepare their own study plan themselves. As a result, they will feel empowered and confident and this will drive them to execute their own plan.

5. HELP THEM TO SET UP SHORT-TERM LEARNING GOALS:

Allow your children to set up their short term learning goals themselves. It is an effective teaching technique that motivates your children to study more. As well as, you have to help them find a greater purpose behind these short academic goals. In this process, they develop a sense of responsibility and an urge to meet the deadline keeps them motivated all the time. They will also master the art of learning multiple subjects simultaneously. Consequently, you will have the opportunity to observe them growing as better learners automatically. In particular, you have to help them dream big. In addition to this, state your expectations from them.

6. DON’T GIVE PUNISHMENT:

Don’t give punishment to motivate a child who is unmotivated. At the same time, never punish your children if they fail to achieve something properly. The effect of punishment (be it physical or mental) is very short-termed. By punishing you can make them act as per your wish sometimes, but it does not make them motivated within. If they are not enthusiastic to learn new things or face the challenges, your punishment may have an adverse effect in the long run. What motivates your child to learn more is your unconditional love and support.

7. REWARD OCCASIONALLY TO KEEP YOUR CHILD MOTIVATED :

Appreciate your child for his every achievement and sometimes reward him also even for his little effort. If he follows his own study plan and completes it timely, appreciate it. Besides, you can reward him also by allowing him to watch his favorite cartoon show on television or some playtime. After a great performance in the exams, spend a great family weekend by watching a kids movie in the theatre and enjoy dining out at his favorite restaurant. But be strict and consistent about following it so that your child never consider it as a bribe. Above all, your love, praise, encouragement, and appreciation are the best motivation for your child.

In fact, you have to start your digital journey by learning some digital vocabulary and exploring the technological device whenever possible. To motivate your children you can start using technology with them, sharing and exchanging ideas with them. Your motivated kid will be inspired to learning more and more under your supervision.

10. TEACH MATH AT AN EARLY AGE TO RAISE A MOTIVATED KID:

According to a study, children can learn the idea of numbers at an early age. Children can understand the concepts of numbers and counting as early as 2 years of age. Moreover, children who have learnt mathematics from an early age are consistent achievers in all aspects of their academic performances. Early Math is a wonderful motivation for child who becomes charged up and inspired to study more.

Above all, successful parenting is synonymous with Patience. Whatever happens, in time of study you have to be super cool. With the right parental approach, you can motivate your child to study more and make him aspire for more knowledge. Most importantly, you have to tolerate the tantrums of your children with love and patience. In addition to this, answer all their questions with patience and even listen to their meaningless stories with patience. This will build a sense of trust in your children and their bonding with you will be strong. However, the most effective teaching technique is hidden in bringing your child in the meltdown mode first. Pamper them, cuddle them and they will learn like anything. They will make the impossible possible. For this reason, we have to understand our children first. Only then, we will be successful to apply these ways to motivate them.

Great tips overall. I used to teach and my husband still does, so we have always approached every moment with our girls as an opportunity to be curious about the world around us and approach it with a desire to learn more; these are also crucial.

Great tips and very timely. I adhere to the learn by doing, project approach pedagogy. You can learn all of the basics while investigating something that interests and motivates the child. As a teacher, you need to supervise, support and help guide. There are times where a project will fizzle out and its ok to simply let it go, they may come back to it later.
