My friend Mimi always keeps worrying about her daughter Tina who is a shy and introvert girl. She is ten only but does not share her feelings and experiences with her mother. So, it has become a matter of great concern for Mimi as she thinks Tina should not suppress her feelings and emotions. I am agreed with Mimi in this matter as I believe that everyone should express his or her mind to lead a stress- free, tension-free, healthy life. While discussing it with my cousin, who is an educationist, I have come to know some easy techniques to help our children remain relieved and relaxed as well as focused and confident. According to him, developing a journaling habit can be an excellent way to maintain a balanced and happy life not only for kids but also for adults. The benefits of journaling daily help us to gain new perspectives on life in a positive manner.

Children become more organized and less restrained in expressing thoughts if they practice journaling from an early age. The concept of writing a diary is the same as journaling. Journaling is writing down our thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a diary or journal. As children follow their parents, I think we must start journaling or writing a diary with our children. You can pick any topic to write in your journal.



When we write a diary, we don’t feel any fear or shame because no one will read it. No one will punish us, judge us, or make fun of us. So without any stress, we express our thoughts and feelings on the paper. As we feel no hesitation to open our minds, our minds become clear and we become relaxed and stress-free. 

When we face any problem, journaling helps us to identify the reasons behind it. It is said that, when we write down our anger, frustration, and depression, it lessens, and our mind becomes free. Journaling is a healthy way to cope with overwhelming emotions. Most of the time, we can realize how insignificant the reasons behind our anger and frustration are while writing them down. So we cannot ignore the benefits of journaling for stress management.

Kids actually enjoy journaling once they get habituated to it because it makes them feel good about themselves. The idea of having a private space where they can write whatever they want is fascinating for them. Instead of showing tantrums in front of others, they prefer to express themselves in their diaries. So, it helps them to manage their mental health and grow a problem-solving ability. As a result, they become self- confident and develop a positive attitude towards everything.


Regular journaling can help a child to improve his writing skills. Children try new techniques to express their thoughts, experiences, feelings, and emotions. In this process, they become more creative, and their vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and sentence structure improve rapidly. By giving attention to details, a child achieves accuracy and consistency in completing a task.

Writing habit makes a child more confident, and he becomes able to describe new ideas and topics with ease. As the child can choose any topic to write, he has the opportunity to elaborate on his favorite topic passionately.  This way, he develops a voice of his own and his own unique writing style. Exams become less stressful for children who foster the habit of journaling. It is one of the important benefits of journaling for students, and parents should encourage their children to write regularly as practice makes it perfect. This writing skill improves the motor skill, self- understanding, and self- awareness of a child.


Every individual should attempt to avail benefits of journaling in the morning. It keeps us motivated for the whole day. To have a planned and stress-free day,  journaling in the morning can be very effective. If a child maintains his journal, it becomes easy for him to keep track of his progress. If he writes down his objectives and goals, he becomes able to monitor his achievements and shortfalls. He can estimate how much effort is needed to reach the goal. Inevitably, he becomes more focused and calculative.

 If a child keeps an activity journal, it motivates him to be involved in different activities. He becomes inspired to achieve something remarkable. Children who keep gratitude journal get numerous benefits of journaling. Life becomes a blessing for them. They learn to respect others, appreciate everyone, and every small thing in life.

So, to instill one of the valuable life lessons ” Gratitude”, we can encourage our children to write a gratitude journal regularly. This helps to develop a positive attitude towards life, and children become happy in life. So, we can easily say that life becomes more enjoyable to them who nurture the habit of journaling. Every new day becomes a new opportunity for them, and life becomes full of possibilities.

Journaling helps us to discover our inner self, our talents, our dreams, and our aspirations. It makes us more comfortable with our own self as there is no one to judge us for our thoughts. So, if we encourage our children to write a journal regularly, it will increase their self-awareness, and they will realize their full potential. They learn to see things from different perspectives and explore various possibilities. This is an important leadership quality that we should want our children to possess from an early age.

In conclusion, there are so many benefits of journaling for students, from finding new perspectives to boosting up their memory and comprehension. At the same time, we can not ignore the benefits of journaling to reduce stress and depression in adults also. There is no such effective method of emotional regulation in a peaceful way other than journaling. In addition to this, it makes us believe in ourselves and have faith in our inner strength and capability. In short, if we want our children to lead a meaningful, balanced, and happy life, we should inspire them to write a journal.

    I used to always journal. It was such a great way for me to express myself and remember things that happened to me. It’s definitely a great idea for kids to learn how to write. I’m not a blogger and freelance writer so I’m living proof that it works.

    I’ve never been very consistent with journaling. But the last four years while going to therapy I have had long stretches where I did journal. It was amazing. It really helps with mental health. It would be fun to get my kids journaling. 🙌

    These are great tips. As an adult, I love to journal but seem to never have enough time. This reminded me of how much I loved journaling as a young teen. I think I may add journals to the Christmas list for my kids this year. Thanks for the article.

    I was so into journaling as a child and it really helped me sort out my emotions at the time. Now it’s cute to look back on what I was going through and how I handled it, but it definitely helped shape me as an adult.
